About the Kanto region

Kanto is where Pokémon began. It is the first region in the series, home to the original 151 Pokémon of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow (1996 to 1998), and it is modelled on the real Kanto region of Japan. The journey runs from Pallet Town in the south up to the Indigo Plateau in the north, past landmarks like Mt. Moon, Lavender Town, the S.S. Anne and Cerulean Cave, through eight Gyms and the Elite Four.

Kanto set the template every later region follows: a Fire, Water and Grass starter trio, eight Gym badges, a rival, version exclusives, and a champion at the end. It was remade as FireRed and LeafGreen in 2004 and revisited as Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee in 2018, all using the same 151-Pokémon Kanto Pokédex this generator draws from.

  • Legendary BirdsArticuno, Zapdos, Moltres

Kanto starters and iconic Pokémon

The three Kanto starters are the ones that started it all: Bulbasaur (Grass and Poison), Charmander (Fire) and Squirtle (Water). Squirtle into Blastoise is the gentlest first playthrough, Charizard is the fan favourite with two Mega Evolutions, and Venusaur is the strongest of the trio in competitive play. In Pokémon Yellow you begin with Pikachu instead.

Beyond the starters, Kanto is packed with icons: Pikachu, Eevee and its eeveelutions, Snorlax blocking the road, Gengar, Alakazam, Gyarados, Lapras, Dragonite, and the fossil Pokémon Kabutops and Aerodactyl. If you want a nostalgia team, roll six and you are almost guaranteed a face you grew up with.

Kanto legendary Pokémon

Kanto's legendaries are among the most famous in the franchise. The Legendary Birds, Articuno (Ice/Flying), Zapdos (Electric/Flying) and Moltres (Fire/Flying), are hidden at the Seafoam Islands, the Power Plant and Victory Road. Mewtwo, created from Mew's DNA, waits in Cerulean Cave after the Elite Four and has the highest base stat total in Gen 1 at 680. Mew, the mythical ancestor of all Pokémon, can learn every TM.

By default this generator rolls regular Pokémon only. Flip on Legendaries to bring the birds, Mewtwo and Mew into the pool, or open Advanced filters and set a shiny mode to hunt a shiny legendary bird.

How to use the Kanto Pokémon generator

The pool is already locked to the 151 Kanto Pokémon, so you can dive straight in:

  1. Pick a quantity. One for a single pick, or six for a full Kanto team (the default).
  2. Filter if you want. Choose a single type, or turn on Legendaries and Fully Evolved. Advanced filters add evolution stage, shiny odds, special forms and a unique-types spread.
  3. Press Generate. Your Kanto Pokémon appear with artwork, types, stats and abilities. Re-roll any single slot you want to swap.
  4. Share or save. "Share team" copies a link that reopens with the exact same team, and any shiny you roll saves to your collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Pokémon are in the Kanto region?

Kanto has the original 151 Pokémon, #1 Bulbasaur through #151 Mew, introduced in Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow. This same 151-entry Kanto Pokédex is reused in the FireRed and LeafGreen remakes and in Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee.

Who are the Kanto starter Pokémon?

The three Kanto starters are Bulbasaur (Grass/Poison), Charmander (Fire) and Squirtle (Water). Pokémon Yellow is the exception: you start with Pikachu, and the three classic starters become gifts from characters around the region.

What are the Kanto legendary Pokémon?

The Kanto legendaries are the three Legendary Birds, Articuno (Ice/Flying), Zapdos (Electric/Flying) and Moltres (Fire/Flying), plus Mewtwo. Mew is Kanto's mythical Pokémon. Turn on Legendaries in the generator to include all of them.

What is the strongest Kanto Pokémon?

Mewtwo is the strongest Kanto Pokémon with a base stat total of 680, the highest in Generation 1. With Mega Evolution, both Mega Mewtwo X and Y reach 780, among the highest base stat totals of any Pokémon.

Which Kanto starter is the best?

It depends on your goal. Squirtle into Blastoise is the easiest for a first playthrough thanks to favourable type matchups. Charizard is the most popular and has two Mega Evolutions. Venusaur is the strongest of the three in modern competitive play.

What games take place in the Kanto region?

Kanto is the setting of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow (1996 to 1998), the FireRed and LeafGreen remakes (2004), the post-game of Gold, Silver and their remakes, and Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee (2018).

Can I generate a full Kanto team of 6?

Yes. Six is the default. No duplicates is on, so all six differ, and you can turn on unique types in Advanced filters for a balanced spread. Press Generate for a fresh team, or re-roll a single slot.

How do I use the Kanto Pokémon generator?

The pool is already locked to Kanto. Choose how many Pokémon you want, optionally filter by type or turn on Legendaries and Fully Evolved, then press Generate. Open any result for its stats, or use Share team to send the exact team to a friend.
